Mike Sgier was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and spent a number of years in Omaha, Nebraska before currently residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He received his BFA in Printmaking from Creighton University in Omaha, and was the recent recipient of an MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His work spans several media, from traditional relief printing, to pen and ink drawing, to digital illustration. But in all cases, he creates a visual narrative, whether through a single image, or the multi-panel possibilities of comics.

Mike's work has appeared in numerous publications and venues. He has done illustrative design for record labels and production companies, and has done spot illustration for local literary magazines. His comic work has appeared in local collaborations with the Cartoonist Conspiracy, most notably Lutefisk Sushi Volume C, and the upcoming Muscles and Frights.

Mike is also the artist and writer for a self-published series, The Ballad of Toby & Sara. Described as 'High Fidelity' meets 'Wings of Desire,' the series relates the story of the wandering archangel Raphael and his encounter with two young people, Toby Jazynski and Sara Reynolds, who are at a crossroads in their lives. The series details how this friendship effects and changes them, as well as the web of family and friends that make up the story. Partly inspired by his time in Omaha, the series also gives Mike the chance to explore mythology and folklore, and its presence in today's culture.
